TERRONE is a tribute to the authentic cuisine and traditional flavors of southern Italy, offering a culinary experience that leads directly to the discovery of southern roots and traditions. With this, we maintain links with our origins, bringing the finest products of the Italian land to the tables in Long Island City.
TERRONE is the word with which the inhabitants of northern Italy referred to the inhabitants of southern Italy, because they were dedicated to working the land (Terra), until the 1950's , terrone kept the classist meaning of “peasant” originally referring to them in a derogatory and racist way. Overtime, the term has acquired a joking meaning among Southern Italians themselves. At one point, even the people migrating from the relatively more rural regions in the North were considered “Terroni del Nord” (Northern Land workers).
Longevity Begins at the table! In line with this philosophy, we created a menu from simple ingredients reworked by our talented chefs, following the Mediterranean diet with almost exclusively Italian organic ingredients.
There are only 5 areas in the world which are considered BLUE ZONES. These are areas where the most centenarians (people who live 100+ years) live and One of these area is Italy. Hence, proving true to the longevity of Mediterranean diet. Scholars trying to discover the secret of centenarians have realized the first factor of longevity is certainly genetic, but that nutrition has a fundamental importance because it affects our DNA and reprogramming.
Through our nutrition, we can intervene to influence not only the duration of our lives, but also apply the mindset of being active and strong rather, than sedentary and fragile. The diet of centenarians is based on low consumption of animal protein, high consumption of natural vitamins and minerals from seasonal vegetables, whole grain breads, olive oil, legumes, and reduced refined sugars paired with a 12 hour fast.
